Our timberwrights are a special group of craftsmen - a combination of artisan, carpenter and furniture maker. Our timberwrights use modern timber framing tools and equipment to cut the many joinery details, the final completion of joints are often hand-fit with traditional timber framing tools like chisels, mallets and hand planes. The work environment at Blue Ridge Timberwrights is based on a balanced recognition of both individuality and teamwork.

Our talented designers are specially trained in this unique design field. We encourage our designers to help refine the customers needs and ideas, taking each choice into consideration to produce a design that will create a unique and innovative timber frame structure.

The following positions are currently open:

Architectural & Timber Frame Designer/Drafter:
A Designer/Drafter works with the design team to design and draft timber frame residences and commercial structures. The qualified candidate is a detail-oriented individual with professional experience in architectural and structural drafting. The applicant must be proficient in AutoCAD 2006. Familiarity with 3D solids and/or Architectural Desktop is preferred. Design/building experience a plus.
Responsibilities include: 3D conceptual models, schematic design presentation sketches, developmental drawings, structural details and construction documentation.

Timber Frame Shop Team:
An entry-level timberwright should have good woodworking skills, an aptitude for 3-D visualization and a working knowledge of geometry and trigonometry. The applicant should have the ability to work with basic power tools, be in good physical condition, and enjoy working at heights. The applicant must be able to read and check plans and maintain a high level of accuracy and efficiency during timber frame production and assembly. The applicant must be willing to travel to job sites and occasionally work away from home for a week or two at a time.

Timber Frame Finishing Team:
A Finishing Team member should have good woodworking skills and an aptitude for 3-D visualization. The applicant should have the ability to work with basic power tools and be in good physical condition. The applicant must be able to maintain a high level of efficiency during the timber frame finishing process.
